Mary, the mother of Jesus, also titled Mary, the mother of God, was a Jewish woman chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus Christ, the prophesied messiah. She was a virgin at the time of his birth, making his birth miraculous, and giving her the title "The Virgin Mary."
