The '''Temple in Jerusalem''' was a central place of worship and sacrifice in ancient [[Judaism]], considered the home of [[God]] on Earth. The [[First Temple]], built by [[Solomon|King Solomon]] in the 10th century BCE, was a magnificent structure where the [[Ark of the Covenant]] was kept, and offerings were made to God. It was destroyed by the [[Babylonian Empire|Babylonians]] in 586 BCE. The [[Second Temple]] was constructed in the late 6th century BCE after the Jewish people returned from [[Babylonian exile]] and was expanded and renovated by King Herod in the 1st century BCE. This temple stood until it was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE during the [[Siege of Jerusalem]].
